Skin Prick Testing
Skin prick testing is a simple method where we place allergens on your arm or back, gently prick the skin, and watch for a reaction. You will usually get results within minutes, all in one visit.
Blood Testing
When skin prick testing may not be appropriate, a blood sample is taken and sent for laboratory analysis. This test measures IgE antibodies associated with allergic responses.
Oral Food Challenges
The oral food challenge is a reliable way to evaluate a food allergy under medical supervision. During an oral food challenge, patients consume carefully measured amounts of the suspected allergen to see how they respond.
Oral Immunotherapy Treatment
Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is a desensitization treatment that involves consuming gradually increasing doses of an allergen at one of our North Texas food allergy treatment centers. As the immune system becomes more tolerant of hazelnuts, the risk of a severe reaction to accidental exposure will decrease.
Food Sublingual Immunotherapy
Food sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) involves placing small amounts of an allergen under the tongue. Patients take daily allergy drops at home to desensitize the immune system to hazelnut proteins. SLIT is suitable for most patients, including many young children.
